PROJECT NUN

Arch. Aldo Cichero’s vision of yachting as a vehicle for art & culture

Brainchild of the brilliant and prolific architect Aldo Cichero, NUN inaugurates a whole new vision of yachting, adding artistic, cultural and philanthropic values to the usual luxury lifestyle that comes with a 120 metres superyacht.

First superyacht project developed by C&B Design, the new luxury design brand created by world-acclaimed Italian naval architect Aldo Cichero, in partnership with Swiss art collector Jürg Brauchli, NUN initiates a new approach in yacht design, proposing an environmentally friendly luxury yacht that is both an architectural work of art and a transoceanic art gallery.

By asking Aldo Cichero to cast a new eye over the yachting industry for its 25th issue, ‘Superyacht Designer’ triggered the architect’s creativity and lead him to explore the deepest roots of the human experience, where he found the source of inspiration for not just a new yacht concept, but a vessel that would unite cultures, traditions and passions through the intelligence of a man who is inspired by beauty and dedicated to universal values.

14th letter of both the Arabic and Hebrew alphabets and universal symbol of the nurturing sea, representing a fish from the Ancient Phoenicia to the modern Arab world, NUN was the primordial ocean in Ancient Egypt’s mythology. NUN was considered as the source of life and creation, a surrounding bubble in which the sphere of life was encapsulated; it was the origin of all the components of the world, encompassing all aspects of divine and earthly existence. As the ocean of the origins, NUN was referred to as the «Father of the gods» and often depicted as a divinity holding the sacred solar boat, bringing light and civilisation to the world across the seas.

Willing to create a yacht that would be a perfect vehicle for art, bringing culture from one shore to another while preserving the fragile marine ecosystem, Aldo Cichero found his primary design inspiration in the myths of Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. With pure geometrical shapes and babylonian style hanging gardens, NUN reminds us of the great pyramids and ziggurats. This futuristic yacht was imagined as a sailing temple of culture, an ode to the ocean and the sun.

Equipped with the most innovative diesel-electric propulsion, solar panels and wave motion power generators, combined to a state-of-the-art sail plan mounted on retractable masts, NUN has a virtually unlimited cruising range in zero-emission mode. Offering 7,000 m2 of living and exhibiting space on three decks, along with 2,200 m2 of outdoor spaces, this yacht would be one of the most versatile vessels to ever touch the water, a pure nautical work of art.

Superyacht, eco-friendly transoceanic explorer and art gallery, NUN would be the ideal long-range vessel for any devoted art collector. This exciting project would perfectly fit a philanthropist willing to share his passion for art and invest in the only museum that could actually travel the world, building bridges between nations and cultures. May the dream of the visionary architect Aldo Cichero come true.
