Owner highly motivated to sell! This is the perfect short-handed Covid Racer/Cruiser. New Lazy Jacks! Boat comes with a Harken roller furler and more!!
ENCORE (LLC owned) has a proud racing pedigree and is arguably the most competitive Sydney 36 CRs ever built. No expense has been spared to make her one of the most successful handicap racers on the West Coast. Here is a partial list of her accomplishments on the race course:
  • Three time Rolex Big Boat Winner in ORR C (2014, 2015, 2017)
  • Division winner in every major YRA event on the bay including the Great Vallejo, Westpoint Regatta, and Encinal Regatta
  • Overall ORR and PHRF winner in Phyllis Kleinman/Swiftsure Regatta
  • Division winner in RYC Big Daddy and Great Pumpkin regattas
  • Division winner in Corinthian Midwinters series
  • Division winner in Spinnaker Cup
  • Division winner Lightship OYRA race
  • Two-time Pacific Cup podium finishes (3rd and 2nd in Division)
  • Three-time West Coast ORR Championship Series winner
Based on the original and very successfully designed Sydney 36 IMS masthead rig racer introduced in 1996, the Sydney 36 CR (cruiser/racer) was launched in 2006 with a fractional rig, double sweptback spreaders and non-over- lapping headsail. With an almost plumb bow, high aspect ratio rudder and very long waterline, the Sydney 36 CR makes for a very competitive handicap racer.

The hull is laminated around an end grain balsa core with vinylester and polyester resins and reinforced with biaxial glass and double bias fabric. The deck is cored with end grain balsa for lightness and stiffness and is reinforced with double bias E-glass in the laminate. With lead ballast down low, 7' 7" in the deep-draft bulb keel, the yacht does not need a lot of human ballast to stay upright. Because of the high degree of stability, a ballast ratio of more than 40%, and righting moment, the need for sail changes with higher winds is less critical.

The interior layout is conventional with double V-berth forward, a fully enclosed head with vanity next aft and hanging lockers to starboard. Further aft is a full headroom large salon with deep settees against each bulkhead and a centerline table. Further aft to port is the L-shaped galley and navigation station to starboard. A large refrigerated compartment is below the nav desk.

The engine is enclosed behind the companionway steps and to either side are good sized double- berths. ENCORE has been customized for long distance ocean racing with two carbon fiber pipe berths designed and installed by GC Rigging and Composites of Richmond, CA. Custom lee cloths are located in the other four sleep areas in the salon and aft berths. All canvas customized by Cover Craft of Richmond, CA.

Great care has gone into the optimization of this Sydney 36 CR to accommodate the challenging demands of both ocean and buoy racing. In addition to a Hall Spars custom carbon spinnaker pole and reaching strut, the original carbon sprit has been replaced with a shorter carbon version to mimic the measurement of the spinnaker pole thus reducing any rating penalty allowing for use of both symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnakers.

ENCORE comes equipped with a custom dodger and carbon emergency rudder system, which easily satisfies the Transpac and Pac Cup requirement for alternate means of steering.
At its very heart, ENCORE excels on the buoy race course. She is a three-time Rolex winner at the prestigious Rolex Big Boat series held yearly at the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco. At this event, she has successfully competed against much larger boats in challenging conditions that only the San Francisco Bay provides. She has been recognized as the West Coast ORR Champion for three years in a row (2015-17) and has won recognition in many other prestigious events on the west coast.

Sydney 36 CR Owner Impressions Encore
Driving is Believing. Encore is one of the most pleasurable sailboats to drive.
From a helmsman's viewpoint, you would be hard pressed to find an easier and
more responsive boat to steer. The large 60-inch carbon fiber wheel is substantial
but offers fingertip control throughout the range of sailing conditions that the SF
bay has to offer.

The sail plan is very well balanced. When the sails are properly trimmed to the
conditions, there have been more times that I have exclaimed, look ma, no hands!
It's THAT stable. Driving any boat after this will be (and has been) a

Cruising or racing, at the end of the day, you want a boat that, at its very core, is FUN
to sail. Encore is that boat. Don't just look at the pictures get out and sail her
when you sit at the helm and hold that big red wheel, you'll understand what I'm
talking about.

Encore was originally outfitted as a crewed racer. With the onset of COVID-19, we
have found that with a few modifications, she is a fantastic short-handed cruiser as
well. Equipped with brand new lazy jacks, a cruising main, Harken roller furler for
the headstay and now brand new Powerlite (Applied Fiber) PBO rigging, Encore is
ready for her new proud owner.

Price has been reduced an additional $25K in an effort to motivate potential owners
to make an offer and get out on the water for a sea-trial. Driving is believing!
