Classic German Frers Design. A true Ocean-Going vessel.
‘RENAISSANCE’ is an exceptional, well-cared for converted racing yacht designed by German Frers for the then Commodore of the New York Yacht Club. This 73 foot sloop was custom built of aluminium by Williams and Manchester, in Newport, Rhode Island. Today she is ready to cruise with 7 berths and 3 cabins (Captain's quarters and Crew quarters forward have been converted to storage but can be used as berths). Thoroughly detailed in the past two years when she received an extensive "face-lift", she can be run with just two people.
She underwent an extensive refit and update in 2000 and 2001, which included installation of a new Volvo TAMD41 200HP engine, a 12 kw Northern Light generator, most systems, a complete rig overhaul with new standing and running rigging, including a new hydraulic furler. The majority of the work was completed by what is today the Hinckley yard in Portsmouth, R.I.
Since 2008, she has been under new ownership. The owner has fully maintained and upgraded the boat where needed or desired. From 2012-2014, here is are some of the items done:
New deck paint in Blue-Grey, stripped and repainted in Polyeurythane, with non-skid,
New Biminis on cockpits,
Teak coamings and deck hand-holds repainted in Polyeuthane paint, no more varnishing to do except in mid-ship cockpit!
Rebuilt all winches, new buttons, fully serviced Harken winches, mast blocks,
New AGM Batteries,
Updated electronics to Garmin Charplotter (2011) and Raymarine e120 (2008),
New LED lighting throughout the interior,
Complete new headliners down below, plywood covered in epoxy then with new fabric.
See Full Specs for more details.
She has completed four very successful trans-Atlantic crossings, and participated in the America’s Cup Jubilee (2001). Her new owner brought her from Rhode island to Cartegena, Colombia, and then to Panama.

LAYOUT
- DECK LAYOUT:
'Renaissance' is laid out with a Mid-ship Cockpit for guests with seating for 6-8, and can easily be accommodated to have dinner (no table, currently). Nice teak benches that have been oiled, and the backrests are varnished teak. A new bimini enclosure and a cockpit keeps your guests out of the elements.
The Aft Cockpit is for controlling the boat. Twin helms, a second set of buttons to control the winches on the deck, dodger and bimini make the boat comfortable to sail.
The Foredeck has the hard-bottom Zodiac dinghy, and the spinnaker pole.
- BELOWDECK ACCOMODATIONS:
Cabins: As currently laid out, "Renaissance" has 3 cabins each with 2 twin beds each. There is one quarter berth in the salon, and couch space for two more.
All the way forward is the crew cabin, chain locker and storage. There is a crew head/shower on the starboard side and over and under bunks to port. Crew bunks are currently being used for storage and sail and line locker. This area opens aft into the galley on the port side.
On starboard is the forward guest cabin with a private head/shower. There are over and under bunks. There is access to the salon from the guest cabin and the galley.
The salon has a large dinette table with seating to port and a straight settee and storage and a quarter-berth to starboard.
Aft of the salon on port is the aft guest cabin with over and under bunks. There is a head with stall shower with access from the aft guest cabin and the salon so it can be used as a day head.
Aft of the salon on starboard is the navigation/captains cabin. This cabin has over and under bunks and navigational equipment, and currently the bunks have been converted to a tool storage.
Continuing aft down the companionway leads into the master cabin with large twin double bunks. There is ample storage and a private head with separate stall shower. A ladder leads up from the salon to the mid-cockpit area. This area accesses the decks and the aft cockpit with twin steering stations, engine controls and navigational equipment.
