Spirit is a uniquely capable and comprehensively equipped cruising yacht built in fiberglass by Tanzer in Dorian, Quebec, Canada. Her main distinguishing features are a pilothouse with inside steering station and a retractable lead-ballasted swing keel / lifting rudder that reduce her draft to just 2’6”; ideal for the Bahamas and other shallow water cruising areas. Shallow draft will allow you to find an anchoring spot even in crowded harbors. Most boats dragging their anchors will run aground before they get to you! Unlike many boats with a swing keel arrangement, the Tanzer 10.5’s keel fills-in the entire keel house opening when it is in its lowered position. The keel is raised hydraulically, with a push of a button, and the housing is integrated into the pilothouse. Performance should come very close to that of a fixed keel.
Spirit's pilothouse is accessed down a short ladder from the cockpit and is equipped with an inside steering station to starboard with a chart table. Wrap-around windows provide excellent light and visibility. Inside steering can extend your sailing season and allows for comfortable navigation under cover in cool or damp weather.
Spirit is designed and equipped for cruising. She can sleep up to six persons; two in a private forward cabin, two in a private aft cabin and two in a convertible dinette area. Interior amenities include a head with shower, full galley with refrigeration and a light and airy salon with plenty of light from the wrap-around deckhouse windows. She has numerous opening hatches and ports for excellent ventilation as well as air conditioning for use dockside in sultry weather. Ease of handling underway is enhanced by an in-mast mainsail furling system, self-tending jib and electric anchor windlass. Recently, a fiberglass swim platform with a four-step stainless steel swim ladder was added.
This yacht has been sailed seasonally in southern New England waters by her owner. She has been meticulously maintained and upgraded over the years and it shows. She has been stored ashore and covered each winter.
Spirit is attractively priced and is reluctantly for sale due to a change in the owner's plans. If you’re interested in a truly unique and well-found yacht designed and equipped to increase your enjoyment of cruising, this unique yacht deserves your consideration.
