1971 Bristol 27

The Bristol 27 is a classic Carl Alberg design! 

This is a well loved classic Bristol yacht perfect for weekend trips around the bay and day sailing. She is outfitted with an easy to handle 6hp Tohatsu outboard (2014, around 200 hours). Breeze also has GPS and a Depth Sounder. A new main sail was put on in 2014 and the Genoa is 140%. Lots of canvas for this heavy little boat. She's been on the hard at Christchurch for the last two years and was just put back in the water this July (2020). While on the hard she received bottom paint, the hull and topsides were repainted and waxed, and non-skid was added to the upper decks. 

The Bristol 27 is a product of an early collaboration between Clint Pearson of Bristol, Rhode Island, and designer Carl Alberg. The stamp of both men is clearly evident in this solid-as-a-rock traditionally styled small cruiser.

The Bristol 27 is a product of its era and of the traditional bent of Alberg’s thinking—that is, a combination cruiser and club racer. At 6,600 pounds displacement with 2,575 pounds of internal lead ballast in its full keel, the boat is fairly heavy by contemporary standards. Fast enough on its own merits, it has an average PHRF rating of 234. By comparison, the lighter Catalina 27 with fin keel and spade rudder has a PHRF rating of about 210, and the Cal 27, also with a divided underbody, a rating of 192 to 200. Clearly, the Bristol was designed to be seaworthy rather than swift.
