Below decks, the Morris 55's salon windows add light and space, and makes possible any number of interior layouts. As with all Morris yachts, each 55 can be fully customized to suit her owner. The fit and finish in keeping with Morris tradition, represents the highest level of craftsmanship available anywhere. A comfortable, spacious interior with full standing headroom is finished, as standard, in classic Herreshoff style with antique white bulkheads, satin varnished solid cherry joinery, satin varnished teak cabin sole and white foam cored overhead panels that match the bulkheads. The guest cabin forward features a V-berth center line double berth with full length lockers above the berth and four large drawers built-in under the berth. Aft of the berth on the port side is a full height hanging locker with SS clothes rod, deep storage shelf and cork lining on the hull surface. A counter-height dresser unit with three full length shelves is located inboard of the hanging locker. The forward head is complete with Corian countertop, SS sink, Tecma macerating toilet, fiberglass floor pan with sump, separate shower stall with wall mount shower, mirror and two SS towel bars. A second guest cabin is located forward of the main salon to starboard. There are two stacked berths outboard, a bureau aft and a hanging locker at the foot of the berths.
In the main salon, the starboard L-shaped dinette with its contoured cushions invites you to comfortably lounge or dine with your guests. The cherry drop-leaf table incorporates liquor storage and a silverware drawer. A full length settee on the port side faces the dinette and provides a great place to relax with friends. The fixed salon windows and hull ports provide a tremendous amount of light for the main salon. Ample bookshelf space is built in above both the port settee and dinette areas centered between the storage lockers. Located aft of the starboard settee, the aft facing Nav Station has an upholstered bench seat and desk with built in chart storage. The instrument console is mounted on the bulkhead above the desk. Outboard of the Nav desk the electrical panel and all monitoring devices and gauges are organized in one convenient location. A solid cherry companionway ladder with Morris's signature crushed walnut non-slip surface on each tread leads you up from the main salon to the cockpit.
The aft Owner's Stateroom features a queen sized centerline double quarter berth with a large built in seat on the starboard side. There are two full width drawers below the berth and four large upper storage lockers flanking the berth outboard. A full height hanging locker and bureau are located forward on the starboard side of the stateroom. An oversized hatch on the cabin top and eight opening portlights flood the cabin with light. The owner's head is private and accessed directly from the stateroom. Located on the port side, the head is complete with a Tecma electric macerating toilet, Corian countertop, SS wash basin, mixer faucet with hot and cold pressurized water, two SS towel bars, teak cabin sole and two large storage lockers outboard. The adjoining separate shower stall features a molded fiberglass floor pan with integral sump, teak floor grate, teak seat and wall mounted shower with temperature controlled mixing valve.
Every element of the U-shaped galley arrangement is well conceived and executed to perfection. Corian countertops, separate refrigerator and freezer, three burner propane stove and SS sink are well laid out for the work at hand and highly efficient. The inboard sink area and includes a large SS double sink, mixer faucet with pull-out sprayer, hot and cold pressure water, two silverware drawers and a large slide out trash bin. An overhead dish storage locker is located aft in the center of the galley. On the port side a microwave oven is mounted outboard of the stove with large lockers forward and aft. A drop front door is mounted directly below the stove providing space for pan storage. The separate refrigerator and freezer both have top and front loading doors for maximum convenience. Two large lockers above the countertop in the provide convenient storage for dry goods. Eight, four piece place settings of Morris china complete the galley.
Auxiliary propulsion comes from a Yanmar 110hp diesel engine with a three blade Flex-O-Fold folding propeller. Electronics include a Raymarine Ray218 VHF radio, Raymarine GPS with 9? wide angle color display, and Raymarine sailing instruments with three separate displays for wind, depth and speed a multi-function repeater. Three instrument displays are mounted above the companionway. The VHF and instrument repeater are mounted in the Nav Station. The GPS display and VHF remote microphone are mounted at the helm. Exterior styling is traditional with gelcoat deckhouse and gloss varnished teak joinery including toe rail, eyebrow trim, dorade boxes, companionway hatch and cabin top handrails. The deck and cockpit sole have contrasting light tan non-skid finish. As an option, teak decking can also be added on the main deck and cockpit for the ultimate in classic looks.
