We are pleased to offer a lovely Tayana Vancouver 42 Pilot House sail boat that lived much of its life in the great lakes and has been repowered with a beautiful Yanmar Diesel!
We really like the boat. The Tayana Vancouver 42, designed by Robert Harris, is one of those classic blue water boats that seem to look just right. From the sharp entry of her high bow to the flowing sheer to her beautifully rounded transom she looks every bit the part of a powerful ocean cruiser. The delightful surprise is the modern swept back cruising "fin" keel that sets her apart from traditional cruisers of her era. This long cruising fin keel gives her incredible tracking ability and combined with the large full skeg rudder this modern underbody will remind you of the Valiant. The deep safe cockpit and a powerful cutter rig sail plan make this vessel one of our favorite affordable offshore cruising and live-aboard boats. Her long waterline makes her a fast passage maker. Her ample beam gives her stability as well as generous living accommodations below. Ocean sailors can't ask for more! Or can they?
There were about 200 Tayana Vancouver 42s built and the first owners commissioned this 42 as a pilothouse which are very popular in the Pacific Northwest where they lived. She was factory finished as a pilothouse vessel. Amazingly the pilothouse is nestled into the deck and looks like it belongs. The pilothouse design offers sailors comfort and security at sea and a lovely room with a view at anchor. The second and current owners were also very pleased to enjoy the pilot house for many years of cruising in the Great Lakes. When they went cruising to the tropics they were very pleased to find that with its six opening ports, five deck hatches, and three large dorades for ventilation, and with its see-through sun screens on the pilothouse glass, the design proved to be ideal, for in cruising in the tropics. The pilot house provides a cool and comfortable helm station and a 360 degree view.
Before the first Robert Harris designed Tayana 42 was produced; the design was reviewed by designer Robert H. Perry in his "Sailing Designs" book, (Port Publications, 1980). Perhaps an overview of the yacht is best described by Mr. Perry's original quote. "The concept [of the Vancouver 42] is to provide a yacht, that is particularly suited to long offshore passages with little or no compromising in the direction of the production, all-purpose yacht" He went on to say, "The Tayana 42 is built by the Ta Yang Yacht Building Company in Taiwan. Ta Yang has the reputation of being one of the most reliable and consistent yards in the orient.” More than 200 Tayana Vancouver 42s are cruising the world today. They are an incredibly strong and safe blue water cruiser. The design specifications are generally described as overbuilt. Construction is robust. The result is a wonderful, solid, comfortable, sea kindly and satisfying boat. She's strong and she sails well in any weather, and she's as comfortable as she is safe.
That brings us to our special offering named Jubilee, a rare and wonderful Tayana Vancouver 42 Pilothouse sailboat. She’s not a motor sailor but a real ocean going sailing vessel. She has been well loved by her current owners for just over 16 years. Aboard Jubilee they have traversed all five Great Lakes and earned the Great Lakes Cruising Club Admiral Bayfield Award! They actually sailed down the St. Lawrence River and through the Gulf of St. Lawrence, rounding the Gaspe’ Peninsula, where they visited New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island. They sailed out and around Nova Scotia to stop by Cape Breton Island. It is a dream adventure. As they have been on the East Coast, they’ve sailed from Maine, down coast to position Jubilee in Brunswick GA and cruise the Bahamas for three winter seasons. That is everyone’s dream and they definitely lived the dream. All the while caring for the home away from home. Now it might be time to do something else or maybe get a trawler for the Great Loop.
Jubilee, as she's called, is a proven sailing vessel complete with a room with a view! Her current owner has improved and added lots of important cruising items along the way which you will totally appreciate.
Jubilee offers an exceptional opportunity to the person who has the cruising dream whether you have a vision sailing in cooler climes, the tropics, or both. She has been carefully equipped for cruising and is solid, comfortable with all new systems; Of course the repower in 2004 is a bonus as is the high output alternator. With recent electronics, great canvas, Her seaworthy, sea kindly motion, ease of handling and space make her ideal for a cruising couple. She's designed to be a home at sea anywhere she travels. Design features like the pilot house, and engine access are wonderful features. Compared to other boats in the same size range, the Tayana 42 offers remarkable living comfort, aesthetics, light, ventilation, and storage. She is a perfect cruising yacht and she won't break the bank.
Jubilee is in "turn key" condition and is ready to depart to anywhere. She just arrived from an ocean passage from way South and her owners and crew enjoyed the voyage very much. If you are thinking of sailing far and living aboard, be sure to give Jubilee your consideration. She is in good shape and priced to sell!

From the pilothouse on Jubilee you will most certainly enjoy the view whether you are anchored in a lovely cove or galloping over the ocean. Essentially you are surrounded by a 360 degree view of the harbors. The inside helm and navigation stations are also appreciated when underway in inclement weather. In Lake Superior, the current owners modified and improved the initial pilothouse layout, creating an expandable dinette table and sitting area where a fixed U-shaped seating area and smaller table had been. The original dining table is now a slide-out cocktail table secured behind the center cushion of the settee (opposite the dinette). The settee also becomes a slide-out berth for sleeping of an additional adult or two children.
One of the highlights of Taiwanese boats like Jubilee is the beautiful joiner work down below. Jubilee's interior is finished out in vertical ash staving with teak cabinet doors and trim. The accommodations are lovely as can be seen in the photos. Two steps down from the Pilothouse is a Galley with a gimbaled 3-burner propane stove with oven. A top loading freezer is next to the double sink, and next to that is a refrigerator which opens either from the top or the side. Drawers and cupboards are available for ready access to dishes, silverware, cooking utensils, spices, canned goods, and other galley supplies. There is a propane Bar-B-Q grill waiting for that favorite meal to be prepared on-deck.
Opposite the galley, also two steps down from the pilothouse, is a small seating area and table, perfect for reading or listening to music. Next to this area is a double berth which extends under the raised portion of the pilothouse sole (floor). Being in the middle of the boat, this bunk is the most comfortable and secure berth for crew members to sleep in, while not on watch, during overnight passages. When guests are aboard, this berth and lower settee area can be also separated from the rest of the boat by a privacy curtain, creating a 2nd stateroom. Immediately forward of the lower settee area is the head which also includes a separate enclosed stall shower. There is a draining wet locker behind the shower for storing wet rain gear, as well as space under a hinged shower seat for storing cleaning and related supplies. Finally, forward of the galley and head/shower is the forward cabin with a spacious vee berth. The vee berth is approximately 6 1/2' long, and wider than a king bed at the head of the bunk and really wide so it is really comfy at anchor or living aboard.
