SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT ' M/V ISLAND TIME' BEING AN IDEAL BAHAMAS CRUISER. ISLAND TIME is a unique vessel. Her design and construction is strongly influenced by Ed Monk Jr. and the Taiwanese boatbuilders of that time period. She shares many similarities of an Ocean Alexander or a DeFever, and was built by CHB. The hull is solid fiberglass with a hard chine and a deep keel that extends nearly a foot below the running gear. The flare insures a dry ride and the boat has never taken water over the bow due to the well proportioned buoyancy. As a semi-displacement hull, much of her stability is derived from the hull speed that she travels through the water. Nearly perfect rocker insures a minimum of pitching. The props are 24'' square, 4 blades, driven by full 2'' shafts, well supported by oversized struts. The rudders are stainless steel and properly sized. They are offset to facilitate shaft removal. The boat is powered by original marinized Yanmar Tractor diesels. These are heavy cast, 2,600 R.P.M. engines, very different from the high speed Yanmar engines of today. They utilize cast aluminum oil pans and valve covers, with cast iron heads and block. These engines are virtually bulletproof and seldom seen in the U.S. The reduction is by Borg-Warner@ 2.5-1. This boat's systems were designed around living on the hook or mooring for extended periods. The endurance can be measured in months between visits to a dock or marina. There is a modern Phasor 10.5 KW genset in a soundshield that is capable of running all of the ships systems simultaneously. A 110v watermaker insures an adequate water supply. An AC air cooled household refrigerator is simple and maintenance free. There is a Prosine 3.0 pure sine wave inverter that takes care of all AC power demands, silently and automatically. The battery bank is flooded wet cells of about 675 AH. Normal generator run time is about 4 hours in a 24 hour period. The heads are electric and use fresh water to flush, no odor or calcification issues. The cabins have extensive ventilation options. There are 3 zones of air conditioning which are seldom needed. The boat is well behaved at anchor, the hard chines are very quiet due to their angle, and the keel keeps the swinging very comfortable. This boat has been used by it's previous owners for over 20 years of mooring in the Bahamas. The cockpit greatly reduces the challenge of ingress/egress from the water. It also allows an oversized lazerette and ease of line handling and deck access. They do not build or design boats like this anymore. It is not comparable to a sundeck trawler because of the cockpit. It does not need stabilizers or apendages that soft chined boats often add. The boat is well proven over decades of satisfaction from its previous owners. Long intervals of ownership are a good indication of a positive experience. There are very few boats to compare this with, especially in this price range. The ergonomics and design details will continue to amaze you well after you have gained respect for the builders prerogatives. Previous Owner: Capt. David D. Pahl
