The Cape Dory 36 is a classic, long keel, Carl Alberg design that remains popular thanks to its good looks and fine boatbuilding. Built from 1978 to 1990, Return is number 82 of 166 built. She is lightly equipped and at this price represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a fine yacht and update her with modern equipment.
Return has been used as a home by its owner for the last several years and has not been sailed for those years. There is no electric refrigeration or modern navigation electronics. Radio, autopilot, and Datamarine instruments have not been tested in recent years.
The current owner has a small 110v refrigerator/freezer in the main salon. The stove is a non-gimbaled propane stove with four burners and an oven, which is operated using portable bottles. This LPG supply would need to be significantly enhanced to meet code.
Pressure water system
There is hot and cold pressure water throughout. Hot water is currently heated by engine only, but with the recent addition of a 110v entrance and panel, dockside hot water can be easily made available.
Manual head and holding tank. Integral shower.
Upholstery recently replaced. Twin vee berths forward with filler. Port and starboard settees in main salon. Navigator's berth on starboard side.
Return has the following equipment, which has not been recently tested: Simrad wheel autopilot, Standard Horizon VHF, and Datamarine Dart speed/log/depth/temp.
Return has a single CQR plow in a bow roller with a chain and rope rode. There is no windlass.
Sails and rigging
Main, stays'l and roller jib in serviceable condition. Running rigging is serviceable and standing rigging is original.
Great "bones" at a low price. An excellent starting point for a highly respected vessel from a top builder.
