Filibuster is a well presented Ketch rigged example of the Laurent Giles designed Westerly 33. Introduced in 1977 to replace the very popular Longbow/Renown the new larger, beamier and heavier successor proved every bit as successful with in excess of 200 hulls being moulded in a short 3 year production run. Providing accommodation over three separate cabins and packing more horsepower than some similarly sized motor sailors of the day the class are well regarded as a capable and safe cruisers; proving popular with families and for use extended cruising.

Built to Lloyds specifications, original Llyod's register certificate accompanies boat. Hull and deck mouldings constructed of heavy weight GRP mouldings. Hull finished in a dark blue epoxy two-pack paint system. Deck finished in white gelcoat with light blue panels of non slip deck paint on the decks and beige coloured panels on the coachroof.
Original gold anodised masts rigged in a traditional ketch style. Gold anodised slab reefing style main boom fitted in late 1990's, standing rigging replaced at the same time. Profurl system fitted on forestay for genoa, emergency forestay with tensioner.
Mercedes OM636 engine located in dedicated engine, sound insulated engine space. Access is via opening panel into saloon or by lifting cockpit sole hatch.
The accommodations below decks are light and spacious providing living space for a full crew of 7 people.
Forepeak laid out with traditional V-berth formation large single bunks, an in-fill section creates a large double. Storage is provided in the cabin with large cave bin style lockers under both bunks, wide shelves running along the hull sides overhead and a large hanging locker on the aft starboard side of the cabin. All lockers are wood lined throughout the boat to prevent condensation problems.
The heads is located immediately aft of the forepeak to port. Very spacious in size for a boat of 33' the heads is fitted out with a Lavac marine heads, sink and vanity unit with hot and cold pressurised water.
Saloon laid out in the classic cruising style with a large drop leaf table; incorporating bottle storage, located centrally and wide bench style settee's running the full length of the saloon port and starboard. The back board of both bunks are removable and double as lee boards if required. The port bunk can convert to a compact double if required. A great selection of storage is provided around the cabin in a selection of under bunk and overhead lockers.
A partial bulkhead port and starboard creates a clear division between the saloon, galley and chart table areas without detracting from the light, airy and spacious feel of the main living space. The galley is to starboard of the companionway and is well equipped to cater for a full crew. Fitted out with coolbox, stainless steel sink, gas cooker and a great selection of storage the space benefits from a worktop in fill over the cooker when not in use.
The navigational area to port is laid out for use at sea with everything in easy reach of the navigators seating. The large table provides a 1/2 chart working area with storage provided beneath, additional storage is provided for bosuns gear, books and navigational equipment.
The aft cabin is not accessible from the main cabin space and must be entered through a separate companionway at the aft end of the cockpit. The provides two large single bunks running down either side, a large open space is provided centrally with a drawer at the aft end, overhead lockers port and starboard provide additional storage.
On deck the boat feels robust and safe with wide side decks, substantial solid timber hand rails running the length of the coachroof and stout guardrails adding to the general feeling of safety. The cockpit is spacious with wide bench seats running either side. The mizzen mast is stepped just forward of the helm position in the aft section of the cockpit with the mainsheet secured to a single, central point just forward.
Massive amounts of on deck storage space are provided in two lockers, port and starboard in the cockpit. The port locker contains the diesel tank and extends to the full depth of the hull. The starboard locker houses the Eberspacher heating system and gas bottles as well as providing storage space.
