Apollonia is a very beautiful classic yawl with gracious lines guaranteed to turn heads wherever she is moored, now requiring some repairs.

A few years ago she competed in a number of Classic regattas with class wins in Antigua and Grenada.

Built by John de Dood in Germany in 1963 to a design by Bill Trip who is remembered for designing very pretty boats that sailed better than their ratings would suggest.

Originally named Wappen Von Bremen she was built as one of two sister ships commissioned by two competing sailing clubs in Hamburg and Bremen and completed a number of Atlantic races.

She is built of double planked mahogany over cedar on oak frames with manganese bronze fastenings, teak soles on oak floors, teak laid decks over laminated and glassed marine plywood, and is fitted with an exquisite mahogany interior.

Her accomodation provides five berths in two forward cabins plus the spacious saloon, with one head and a fitted galley with oven, hob, fridge and freezer.

She was repowered with a Kubota 73hp diesel with low hours and is fitted with a Simrad autopilot and Simrad / Garmin instruments.

Following damage sustained in a hurricane in the 90's Apollonia was bought by a well regarded professional shipwright and underwent a fifteen year total restoration to her former glory under the supervision of a Lloyds surveyor.

During the restoration the majority of the hull planking and many of the frames were replaced, together with the soles and bearers, the cockit, coamings, the entire deck, and many of the interior fittings. The spars were replaced with aluminium and she was re-rigged and equipped with a suite of cruising sails.

Regrettably her shipwright owner passed away two years ago and she has been somewhat neglected since, now requiring further repairs. Apollonia is seriously for sale at a fraction of the restoration works already undertaken.

Requiring replacement of 50% of the outer planking and some 20 frame ends, rebuilding of the cockpit and 50% of the coachroof. The deck and interior is mostly excellent, and the rig and sails are in good condition. All the lumber and fastenings for the repairs have already been purchased and shipped to Grenada along with many other items.

Apollonia represents a wonderful opportunity for a new owner willing to invest a little time and money on completion of which Apollonia will once again be a timeless and elegant classic yacht to cruise the Caribbean islands and beyond while also eligible to compete in the classic regatta circuit.

She is currently lying ashore in Grenada where there are some excellent shipwrights ready and willing to bring her back into condition at a fraction of the cost of having similar work completed in the US or Europe.
